LVL - Latvian Lat currency

Latvia flag Latvia

The Latvian Lat (LVL) was the official currency of Latvia from 1922 to 2013, before being replaced by the Euro (EUR) when Latvia joined the Eurozone. The Lat was issued and regulated by the Bank of Latvia and was considered one of the strongest currencies in Europe before its transition to the Euro. It was divided into 100 santīmi, and both banknotes and coins were in circulation. The switch to the Euro was part of Latvia’s economic integration with the European Union, aiming to improve trade, financial stability, and investment opportunities. Today, the Euro is the only legal tender in Latvia, though historical banknotes and coins remain collectible.
